Great Railway Journeys

A 'new series' started on Melbourne tv (channel 2, 18.00, 1 hour,
Saturdays) on Sat.25.9.

The first episode had presenter Victoria Wood (a female Michael Palin)
travelling from Crewe via Carnforth, Sellafield to Glasgow Central, Fort
William, Mallaig, Skye, Kyle of Lochalsh, Thurso, Edinburgh,
Middlesborough, Whitby and back to Crewe. It was made in 1996. There were
more train scenes than in many supposedly grj episodes; the commentary
grated (but at least with fewer inane interviews than others in the genre).
A feature was tying the journey into railway scenes from a 1950s/60s tv
soapie filmed at Carnforth. Train spotters fared badly.

AFAIK the 1998 series (shown in UK and South Africa) started with Spain,
and moved on to Japan. Perhaps we are not seeing the latest series.
