Status of the ELS

Bit of info from Rail 2000s Newsletter.
All the ELs are to be upgraded for freight working and made available for 
lease to who ever wants them by end of this year.
Engines will be completely overhauled, new traction control and re gearing of 
the traction motors to increase tractive effort.
Also a new paint job , blue and silver.
The upgrading is being done by Goninans at the WA plant.

This would present a good opportunity for QR to get hold of some modern SG 
locos if it wants an early entry into the National market.
