Because some people pay for their internet access by the amount that they
download. These people tend to steer clear of newsgroups where the posting
of binaries (pictures, etc) is allowed. That is why there are groups
specifically meant for the posting of binaries. alt.binaries.pictures.rail
would have been a MUCH better place to post them.
