: Ballast (re-ballast?) of the up and down lines between Holmsglen and
: Jordanville last night following sleeper replacement (skilled engineering
: people) earlier. Also last night, re-ballast on the down between kooyong and
: heyington.

Track machines for this work are currently in the siding at Burnley.
(They normally stay at North Melbourne)

There is a lot of sleepers between Spencer Street and South Kensington &
Kensington on the Through Suburban, Main Suburban, East Suburban, and 
Broadmeadows Suburban lines.

Most of this type of work (I think it is called Tie Renewal) is done after
last train, before next one.  Sometimes they stop trains around 9pm and start
work then.

Other works like this have been done on the St.Albans Line and Werribee Line
(between Footscray and Newport) or going to be done in the near future.
