Actually, not such a bad idea - it was done in Queensland when they
electrified 0 check out Maryborough and Gympie.

The highway passes over the railway just south of Wodonga - why not have it
so that the SG line diverges at the bridge that crosses it currently, then
runs with the new highway alignment. It could meet up with the current SG
lines somewhere in North Albury - would speed things up no end.

Of course, there would be an outcry over the lack of BG access to Meblurne,
and given the amount of money that has been spent on ABX station in recent
years, they will have to keep it operational. Hence , there is no
possibility of a high-speed railway being built to by-pass the town of
Albury.
