The driver actually saw and hit the person. The guard only has to look
for the parts, they can also refuse to do so.

In my experiance its the actual moments before the hit that are more
traumatic. Seeing the person, the expression on their face and knowing
there is nothing you can do. The actual hit just makes you feel sick.

And in case you are wondering I know about this sought of thing from
being in rescue squads, the courses that they doand from my own personal
experiences.
