S317 was originally allocated to the Seymour Railway Heritage Centre, then a decision was made that it should be sold by public tender. Great Northern Railway won the tender. So S317 was removed from the SRHC depot by Great Northern Railway sandwiched between 3x T class as S317 did not have brakes. S317 does not have any traction motors or generator.
