GREENHOUSE INITIATIVES IN RAIL-BASED ENDEAVOUR
A new management company is presently attempting to interest track owners
in Victoria, NSW and Sth Aust in accessing the benefits planned to accrue
from the placement of carbon sinks within railway reservations.
The company has approached the Natural Heritage Fund to underwrite initial
placement initiatives.
Whilst NSW (RAC) has expressed "in principle" support for the proposal as a
rail reserves management strategy, Victoria’s new franchisee and the
S.A ownership have yet to respond.
Agricultural and Natural Resources Management and Horticultural students
and/or operatives may find the project of some interest.
A pilot program has been scheduled for a currently "closed" Victorian
North-Eastern line.
