"Shock rail deal
GONINAN has won the right to maintain and service Freight Victoria's 107
locomotives in a shock new deal. The move is expected to shore up job
security at Goninan's Bendigo railway workshops and strengthen its work
prospects. The company will formally announce the development to the
Australia Stock Exchange this morning. Freight Victoria officially took
over V/Line Freight at the weekend. Industry sources said yesterday
Goninan had hammered out a new maintenance deal with Freight Victoria
after its initial links with the consortium seemed lost when Freight
Victoria received an overseas offer for maintenance work."
