NT Government rejects Alice Councils bypass of Alice Springs.

The NT Government has ruled out the Alice Springs Town
Councils consultants report on the proposed bypass East
of Alice Springs to Darwin.  Government Minister Barry
Coulter in a press release claims the consultants
report is flawed.

He said the report overstated the cost of building the
existing proposal North, out of the present terminal by
$30 million, he also added that the extra costs of a 
20 Km Eastern detour were not taken into account.
He did say however, that in the very long term, a by-
pass might be desirable.
