According to RAILWAY MANUAL (WAR) (Australian Military Forces 1942), Section
55 - Anti-Aircraft Defence of Troop Trains.....

Troop trains were to be protected by anti-aircraft light machine guns,
spaced (if possible) along the trains. The guns could be mounted on a motor
vehicle on the train. Although not stated, it would seem the intention was
for the train to keep moving during an air raid. The section ends with the
instruction "Officers and other key personnel must not be concentrated in
one portion of the train, but must travel distributed along its length".
