Re: Perth: anyone have details on new southern line?

It's old news. The plan is to put suburban tracks alongside the freight
line - maybe pinch one freight track and single-track the freight with
loops. Stage 1 was to be down to Thompsons Lake. It IS NOT part of TransForm
WA, and is not funded, but the Lib/NP coalition was looking at the public
transport counterpart. The line is part of the intended line through to
Mandurah. When the Roe Hwy prep works were done at Kenwick, provision for
the Kenwick west chord was made.

BTW - AEA/AEB would not be used if there was any chance of SG freight
co-existing with the pass (even crossing at level) because wire height
required prob exceeds pan reach; and because there aren't enough AEA/AEBs to
cover all Northern line (Armadale-Joondalup) workings as 4-car during peaks.
