Re: Skitube

Skitube is single line with crossing locations at:
Bullocks Flat station
a loop just before entering the tunnel
Perisher station

Peak operation uses three train sets.

The system has been embarrassingly successful.
Trains can't be lengthened, and neither can the two upper stations.

The solution was to reduce the upper section to a 2-car shuttle service,
allowing longer trains on the lower section.
AFAIK: before the change 4, 4 & 3 {or 3, 4 & 3?]
after the change: 5, 4 & 2. A five car set overhangs the 4 car platform at
Perisher.

During ski season, the railway runs on 20 min headways: this is saturation.

The system opened with magnetically-encoded tickets actuating barriers, and
has reverted to manual inspection: an interesting message for Melbourne.
