Problems at Merrylands

There was a problem at Merrylands this afternoon, where there was apparently
some sort of explosion on a train.

I was on a train from the City to Liverpool via Granville. At about 4:45pm
when we stopped at Lidcombe, the guard announced that the next stop would be
Cabramatta. Most people got off and the train left and went via Regents
Park.

Trains from Granville to Cabramatta were disrupted and radio messages were
that they were finding it difficult to get buses, and that passengers should
make other travel arrangements. The radion announcer (Mike Carlton) asked if
this meant get a taxi. The City Rail spokesman seemed to have no idea of
what happend (this was now about 5:15pm), and said it was being investigated
by the police.
