Re: 6029 Restoration - what's happening?

Where thre's the will..... Just look at 1009 in Qld. Before going into
'shops, it had major corrosion. When viewed in 1991, it was quite poor.

6039 is supposed to be in excellent order. It was the last locomotive
in regular service to go through 'shops and saw minimal service before
withdrawal (cracked frame, subsequently repaired - used in tour service
in 1977). 6039's boiler is stored dry reputedly with sacks of silica
gel to keep it dry. Mechanically 6039 is about as good as a Garrat can
be.

Has 6042 gone from Forbes? Is the spare 60 Class boiler (6018?) at
Dorrigo causing confusion? 6042 was the second last Garrat to be
overhauled. It was in good condition when it went to Forbes but 20
years in the weather may not have done it too well.

6040 has corrosion problems but they aren't too major (as far as
corrosion goes, it is in better condition than 1009 was). Mechanically
6040 may be fine as it had little service after its last sojourn in
Eveleigh.

Which one runs first is anyone's guess as all four (including 6029)
have large difficulties to overcome before they are in steam on the
mainline again.
