Seriously doubt your information, mate, with almost all systems shedding
staff. There must be at least 500 capable drivers out of work since Driver
Only was / is initiated. And you will probably see another 200 or so added
as V/Line, then National Rail and finally WestRail go under US control, via
privatisation!
Anyway the Olympics only last a few weeks, what would they do with the extra
staff then?? Some talk at one time of training some Victorian and Brisbane
Crews in the new Olympic Loop only and borrowing them from there respective
Corporations for the duration, but that was found to be too hard. Guess if
everyone just worked a few extra hours, and Freight Rail were able to supply
a few extra crews, they will manage well enough!
