According to "Today's Railways" SNCF budged GBP 5.56 billions$ or about 11
billion AUST$ for the finacial year of 1999 "only".
If Australia were given this amount of money each year I think we would have a
double track standard gauge with 25kv electrification from Carins through to
Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and all the way to Perth 10 years ago!
Alice Spring-Darwin line would have completed decades ago.
