There's a daylight XPT from Sydney to Murwillumbah, with a bus
connection to Brisbane, and a nighttime XPT from Sydney to Brisbane
direct. The Murwillumbah XPT goes back to Sydney overnight, with a
bus connection from Brisbane, and the direct XPT goes from Brisbane to
Sydney in daylight.

Mind you, with a couple more sets, Countrylink could probably provide
balancing services on both routes to give direct daylight and
overnight services in both directions between Brisbane and Sydney.

What - no demand, you say? Has anybody actually checked?
