I agree with your sentiment and statistics about new tramlines being built
all over the world. However, in Sydney's case, the new light rail "system"
IS a fiasco. It goes from Central to the Fish Markets by a completely
indirect route. I can walk faster. I know it's being extended soon, but the
point is it would have to be increased 10 fold to be really viable IN
ADDITION to the fact that tickets are not interchangeable with the rail and
busses.

I dare say this new Brisbane tram will be a similarly glorified fun fair
ride.
