Three answers:

First, while lots of people define a millenium as any period of about
365,239 days, the next significant "new millenium" is that 365,239 days from
the arbitrary 1-Jan-0001 start of our current calendar. I.e. it's about a
year in the future.

Second, the calculations would be much simpler it our present calendar had
an arbitrary start date of 1-Mar-0000, but the Romans didn't understand the
meaning of "zero" as an integer between -1 and 1.

Third, I'm sure that after the fireworks, I'll be somewhere on the CityRail
[NSW] network looking for the best cases of incontinence that can come from
an organisation that is still struggling to escape from the 1890s. And then
I'll bore you all to death with my unimportant observations.
