This is the VR who did this, not a preservation group. If you are a preservation
group in Victoria you should try to restore your locomotives and rolling stock
into VR condition or whatever operator they came from. Otherwise a
"preservation" group is the same as WCR apart from the non-profit aspect. If a
"preservation" group buys A66 in the future and repaints it into the
bicentennial or olympic livery this is ok because they are restoring it to
V/Line condition, not their own fantasy paint job. Can you really say that WCR's
S class diesels are "preserved" simply because they are old? "Preserved" locos
and rolling stock should be presented in a condition that demonstrates their
appearance at some time in the past when they were in service with a commercial
operator. This is the difference between true preservation groups and ordinary
rail operators. The words "Heritage", "Preserved" and "Museum" are used too
loosely these days, Steamrail is nothing more than another tourist train
operator, their trains are a modern day fantasy with a vague similarity to the
old VR trains.
