I visited Crown Coaches (Melbourne) with a Chartered Institute of Transport
group earlier in 1999: CC uses such technology to track its buses.  The
precision was such that it could detect in which traffic land of a six lane
highway the bus was travelling.
Such technology could well have made redundant the cumbersome and
failure-prone aspects of Victoria's section-authority working system.
