Reversal of history.

A report on Channel 7 Brisbane News on 17/08/99 stated that QR's Tilt Train
is so popular that it is actually winning passengers back from airlines. One
airline company, Flight West, has recognised this and has slashed air fares
to less than half in an attempt to woo their passengers back. The one way
air fare from Brisbane to *Bundaberg was slashed from $200 to $80 but not
before abolishing all catering facilities and cabin staff.

The new Bundaberg service was a hit with Bundy and Maryborough residents
during the Brisbane Exhibition (Royal Show) with passengers taking advantage
of the daily return service to make a day trip to Brisbane for the "Ekka".
QR schedulers made it even easier for the rural show goers by 'tabling an
Exhibition stop for all southbound tilt trains for the duration of the show.

Channel 7 reporters called it "a reversal of modern history". Will the same
happen when the Cairns Tilt is introduced?

The Brisbane Exhibition timetable also saw the introduction of the 220
series SMU into revenue traffic and the return of BB18 1/4 No. 1079. C17
No.972 was also in steam for the circular services. For the first time ever,
old met new when SMU223 was coupled to EMU25 to form one of the many
circular services on 10/08/99.
