Transport upgrade to White Bay

Today's Sydney Morning Herald reported that road and rail links to Sydney's commercial port at Glebe and White Bay are to be upgraded under a $21mill plan.

Two more berths are to be constructed and nine ships (currently 7) should be able to use the port at any one time.  The existing redundant silos on the point are to be demolished.  Some of the extensive rail trackage in the area is to be converted to roads so as to enable trucks to be taken off the local streets and connect directly to the City West link.  However a rail line will be extended from the White Bay rail sidings to the tip of Wharf 6 and a second spur will be built along the southern side of White Bay.  It is reported that the new improved rail links should lead to a capability of handling 10 to 20 trains per day.

It is a shame that the former rail siding that served the current vehicle unloading wharf nearby isn't noted as to be reinstated.
