Airport IRONY

Any one who knows Essendon Station will know that it consists of 3
platforms;
Platform 1 on the East side of the tracks and platform 2 and 3 in the middle
of the other two tracks. Platform No.1 has not been used for a very long
time, although it is still connected to the main line.
(Melway Map 28)

There used to be a siding that continued beside the main lines across the (3
track) road bridge to the north of the station and along the cutting up to
the Napier St. Road Bridge.
It branched off the platform 1 track just before it rejoined the main line.

Recently (1997?/98?), these points were removed to allow the carpark to be
extended which also meant the installation of a new staunchion for the over
head wiring.

If the proposed Airport link is built this 3rd alignment will no doubt be
used again for the Airport express line.
This will require everything to be put back again exactly the way it was!!!
HOW ANNOYING IS THIS!!!

Looking on the bright side, at least the 3 track bridge and the cutting are
still intact....
FOR NOW!
