Goulburn steam weekend

The magic of steam comes to Goulburn this weekend, with the opportunity for
the whole family to ride in a steam train to Lake Bathurst for a day out, or
a 45-minute stop over.
The steam weekend is being organised by the Goulburn Rail Heritage Centre in
conjunction with the Lachlan Valley Railway Society.
The steam train service to Lake Bathurst/Tarago will leave the Goulburn
Roundhouse at 11am and 3.45pm and depart from Lake Bathurst/Tarago at
12.15pm and 4pm on Saturday and Sunday, returning to the Roundhouse at
1.15pm and 5pm.
Drawing the steam era carriages will be 5367, a steam locomotive built by
Clyde Engineering in 1914.
Coach tours to the historic siding on the shores of Lake Bathurst will run
from 11am to 4pm.
There is also an opportunity to see the re-opened station waiting room,
built in 1884, at Lake Bathurst and view the historic displays.
At the roundhouse, families can view the heritage machine shop - which
includes the locomotive wheel turning lathe and other machinery.
Vintage diesel locomotives 7321, 4821 and 42101 will be on display along
with an assortment of historic wooden and steel goods wagons and passenger
carriages.
Static steam locomotive B390, built in Scotland in 1891, will be on show, as
will the JH Watson seven-ton capacity vertical boiler, self-propelled steam
crane that was used to lay the original rails on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
A vintage and veteran car display is also expected to add to the activities
at the Roundhouse and there will be a canteen stocking hot food, drinks and
snacks.
Entry to Goulburn Roundhouse is $5 for adults and $2 for children and
pensioners. The return trip to Lake Bathurst/Tarago is $15 for adults and $8
for children and pensioners. Tickets can be purchased at the Roundhouse, or
by phoning (02) 4822 1210 or (02) 4821 0627.
On Saturday evening the rail enthusiasts are offering a special night out
for $32 per person.
The cost includes a return train trip to Moss Vale in the steam era
carriages, hauled by a diesel locomotive, and a two-course dinner at the
Moss Vale Services Club.
A single way ticket including the dinner is $20.
The train will depart from the Goulburn Roundhouse at 6pm and arrive at Moss
Vale at 7.10pm. It will leave Moss Vale for the return journey at 11pm
arriving back at Goulburn at 12.05am.
Bookings are essential for this unusual night out and should be made by
phoning (02) 6341 1052.
