Railway Digest April 1999

Earlier this month, there was some discussion in this forum
about the repainted 620 class set, 623/723. Not only is this
rolling stock depicted in the April Railway Digest but National
Rail liveried 8124 is also featured.

There is also news of the Northern Rivers Railroad's long
awaited passenger service, the possible re-opening of six NSW
branch lines and a progress report on the Parkes triangle.

Feature articles include Western Revival - how prospects
for the NSW Main West are looking better than at any time
in the last 10 years, Driver-only operations in the Pilbara
and a Tasrail update. There is also a national snapshot of
the classic Bulldog-nose locos, which are still used in non
tour revenue service by at least six operators.

The magazine was available to ARHS members last
Wednesday (after 5 p.m.) and the subscription copies
were posted yesterday. There were a few production
hiccups this month, which unfortunately, delayed the
magazine's release. The Editorial team and publisher
thank all RD readers for their on-going support.
