The return working to Thirlmere was SL 89. The locomotives for SL82/SL89
were 4490 and 4520
and 3801 was used on NS83/NS86. The clue here is that
SL is a southern loco hauled train whereas NS is a
a northern steam hauled
train. The use of Flemmo as a changeover point was to avoid going into
Central and missing the
trackwork.
