The book "Australia Through Time" mentions a railway accident near
Cootamundra on 25th January 1885 but gives no details.

"Along Parallel Lines" by John Gunn has a photo of a crash near Cootamundra
in 1885 but doesn't give the exact date. The caption to the photo reads
"Albury Mail crashed into washout caused by flood rains destroying the 20
foot high embankment. 8 people were killed".
