Sydney Light Rail extensions

It was reported in the Telegraph recently (Monday, I believe) that the NSW
Minister for Roads, Carl Scully, has postponed making a decision on the
privately funded Circular Quay light rail extension for six years, at which
point in time the effectiveness of the proposed cross city road tunnel on
reducing CBD surface traffic can be assessed. Discussions are still underway
between the Department of Transport and CGEA regarding the Inner West (Stage
1) Lilyfield extension. The article made no mention of the Stage 2 extension
to Ashfield.

Whilst this is certainly not good news, there may be hope yet. There are no
guarantees that either the Minister or the ALP government will be in a
position of influence for much of the next six years. And even if they do
remain, they may yet decide that this issue warrants an official NSW
Government Backflip. Time will tell.
