If you are refering to the letters  ie K G T etc. If they can they are loosly
based on what type of train they are AND I SAID LOOSLY.

ie T  is a  Tangara
   C is for a Chopper set (a fore runner to the tangara and some would say a
prototype)
   S is for a standard set ie common dd surburban.

How the others came to be I have a rough idea but to rough to put in this reply
