I don't think so, the seats aren't that bad, and the air conditioning is
good, better than on any of CityRail's other air conditioned EMUs. The real
problem with the Tangaras is their miserable lack of cleanliness. CityRail
don't care much for interior cleaning, and the Tangaras, of which some units
are over 10 years old, are more grubby than most. The thick tinted glass only
compounds this, as at least if a non-airconditioned train is grubby you can
direct more of your attention out the window, a filthy Tangara can make for a
rather miserable ride.

CityRail should urgently put the Tangaras through a refurbishment program,
perhaps including a more colourful seat fabric to make the interiors a little
less bland, and then maintain a suitable level of cleanliness. If this were
done, the Tangaras would no doubt regain the level of prestige that they once
had.
