I know for a fact that the RUB,HUB,IP cars use 415V three phase ac and as a
result they would need to be coupled to a loco that had a separate hep unit  e.g.
a CLP or a Vline N class. or alternatively a power van would have to be used.
With the XPT's I think that variable voltage variable frequency electrical
equipment is used because power is taken from the main alternator.

Probably around 1968-69 with the last steam hauled Southern Highlands express..
