Re: Beresfield Accident Findings

Do any NSW freight cars/wagons have the emergency portion of the control valve?
When I left VR they were still running just a single auxiliary res with no
emergency res.

For those unfamiliar with the emergency res., it is an additional supply of air
on each car for use when the train is put into emergency, it increases BC
pressure over what you get with a full service application. It also aids in
releasing and recharging by getting air into the aux. res faster thus releasing
the brakes at each car when a rise of 1 1/2 pounds is detected. Very fast
releases are possible with this system. For example a 115 car coal train can be
released at speeds as low as 5 MPH!
