SMR 10 class #25

For any persons interested...

SMR 25 (10-class) will return to steam for the first time in two and a half
years on Saturday 28th March at Richmond Vale Railway Museum.

This locomotive was one of the last of the class to be withdrawn from
service in late 1987, after the closure of the Stockrington Colliery and
Richmond Vale Railway.

SMR #25 along with SMR #24 formed the RVRM's main motive power on passenger
and recreation coal trains until #25 was withdrawn from service after boiler
certificate expiration, to allow our small team of volunteers to focus on
rebuilding SMR #30. Since then #24 has had to suffer the burden of hauling
all trains, with a little help from 0-4-0 "Marjorie".

#24 is now out of service and probably won't be seen in steam again until
after the year 2000. It is hoped however that #30 will be ready between
April - May this year.

#25 was lit-up briefly for a few hours last Saturday afternoon (21st) and
had a few last jobs tended to, mainly on the regulator assembly.

Cheers
