Re: Scenic line near Melbourne City ?

I am typing this blindfolded: my editor has dropped into the greek font.

The best known scenic line is the Puffing Billy tourist railway, which
connects with the metropolitan rail system at Belgrave. It even has
brochures in Japanese. The ride to Belgrave isn't bad either, going
through some of Melbourne's classy leafy suburbs.

About the only other scenic metropolitan route is to Hurstbridge.

Longer distance: The mainline to Bendigo is one of the oldeset, with
traditional stone architecture and bridges.

The far end of the Warrnambool mainline is also scenic, approaching the
coast through rolling dairy country.

By and large all scenic lines in Victoria ran into hilly areas which do not
provide the traffic for a modern rialway, and have been closed.
