Heard in the Railfan Shop

I was in the Railfan Shop the other day and heard that the new Ghan service to
Melbourne was going to be steam hauled. I thought it was a bit far fetched and
I now understand that it will be diesel hauled. Is this correct? I like
listening to the stories people tell while you are browsing in the Railfan
Shop. Tall tales and true? Do raifans tend to fantasise or is there substance
in some of these seemingly outlandish stories? What venues, other than the
Railfan Shop, are there for enthusiasts to hear gunzel stories?
