Sugar Cane Railways Book

I thought that listers might be interested to know that a sugar cane
railways book has been published in Mackay recently.

The A4 book has 152 pages with colour cover and six pages of colour photos
inside plus more than 140 black and white historical and modern photos.

Entitled "Wheels in Motion" it contains a brief history and tramway map for
each of the 23 sugar mills in Queensland operating cane railways, together
with an up-to-date locomotive list and contact details for each mill.  There
are also 17 stories from old drivers and others connected with tramways on
the steam days and on the transition to diesel traction.  There is plenty of
interest, especially in the photographs and historical anecdotes.

The author is Andy Roberts, a locoman at Marian Mill, who had researched and
produced this book with support from the sugar mills involved.

The book is of broad interest, and will probably sell well among loco crews
at the mills.

With a limited print run of 500, those wishing to get hold of a copy of the
book should not delay unduly in ordering one from the author at c/- Post
Office, Eton 4741. The cost is $36 but you will need to add postage costs
for 650 grammes.

at his achievement in publishing this interesting book.
