The Ballan - Wallan distinction comes from the fact that Wallan is half of
Wallan Wallan, hence the WOLLen emphasis.

I have yet to reach the end of this thread.  Has anyone tackled Gheringhap
yet?
Usual Scottish style is that the h it there to harden the g (Langi Ghiran
is Langi Gear-an).  Most people say Jering-Hap; I believe that it should be
Gerrin-Gap.
