Who was the Yank who told you that? The Australian pronunciation for the
city in Tasmania is LON ses t'n or there-abouts. The proper Cornish
pronunciation of the original Launceston is LON son, rhyming with the name
of the well-known brand of shaver. That's what the locals there call it,
don't fall for the ignorance of the up-country Poms who come from the wrong
side of the Tamar. I'm Cornish by birth, and have visited Cornwall a
number of times, so I ought to know.
