Probably revenue dilution - people would wait until the last minute at
quiet times (I don't agree with the discontinuation, but I can see why it
happened.) The domestic airlines no longer offer stand-by airfares either,
preferring to offer advance-purchase, non-refundable, non-changeable
tickets.
