G'day.

Certainly, there was a station at Dundee. I visited the site in May
last year as part of a heritage inspection of the Main Northern Line.
My notes indicate that only the platform remained, together with a
small "out-ofs" shed and, surprisingly, the remains of a station
name-board. There are the foundation bricks of a large goods shed,
measuring approx. 50-ft by 10-ft with goods clerk's office, along with
the foundations of the station building. A substantial well remains.
No settlement now exists in the vicinity of the station, although
there was a turnstyle gate in the boudary fence leading to a school
house in the distance, evidencing that at one time there was a
substantial settlement.

Later, at the Tenterfield Station Museum, I came across a photograph
of Dundee station intact. This confirmed the station building to be a
major structure, not unlike Deepwater.

According to the HOW AND WHY OF STATION NAMES, published by the
Archives Section of the State Rail Authority of NSW, Dundee station
was opened on 1/9/1886 with the extension of the line to Tenterfield
and was officially closed on 27/3/1976

Dundee school was oened in August 1853 and closed in May 1974.
A second school, known as Dundee Railway Station School, was opened in
August 1891, becoming Dundee Rail School in 1940 and was finally
closed in December 1949.

Dundee Post Office was opened on 1/10/1851, closed on 29/6/1974. A
second post office, known as Dundee Railway Station Post Office, was
opened on 16/8/1888, but closed on 31/8/1955.

I have a pencil note that approval was sought in April 1987 for the
demolition of the station and platform. So it could doubtless be
said that demolition was approved, and most likely took plate later in
the year.

What are your memories of Dundee, Jock?
