I can't tell you WHEN it will be introduced, but it will basically be a
plastic card (similar to the new phone cards) with a microchip embedded in
them. You will just need to press the card against the yellow dot on gates
and validating machines, and the reader will obtain the information from
the chip on the card. (In Manchester, you do not even have to make contact
- merely wave it approx. 30cm from the reader, meaning you do not have to
remove it from your wallet or purse!)
