True, there is a sticker on all (most?) machines above the note acceptor
which says "Maximum of $10 change".

I remember using the ticket machines in London last year when I lived
there, which took up to 20-pound notes (approx $50), and would issue change
up to any amount. They were ALWAYS running out of change. You could
guarantee that by lunchtime there would be no change left in the machines.
I assume that is why they have implemented the limit here. Also, as they
were approaching the end of the change they would issue a stupendous number
of 5p coins as change; sometimes 40 coins!! or more. This was almost as
annoying as them being out of change.

I had the same problem as you, and ended up using EFTPOS to buy my $4.30
daily ticket. It worked fine. Does anyone know if there is a minimum limit
for EFTPOS? i.e. could I buy a 80 cent Rail+2 concession ticket using
EFTPOS?
