I get it now. It is a funicular, except it doesn't have the steady grade nor the gauntlet track/loop design. Sounds like a second track and car, replacing the counterweight is one solution. The only other would be to redesign the cable run to actively retain the cable in the vertical plane - the cars being connected on the sides of the cable - at 90deg to the vertical. DW
