The Sunbury signalling is still two position even with the modern? interlocking
system hence the provision of a bracket post with two arms (lights in two
position areas are still referred to as arms) and a calling on. The calling on
enables the loco of terminating trains to be signalled back onto their train. The
dwarf signal at the down end is to permit locos to reverse from the down line
through the down platform and up to a Limit of Shunt board near the level
crossing on the down line prior to reversing through the up end crossover to the
up platform. It is interesting to note that two quotes were put in for this job.
The other was for the provision of a larger manual interlocking frame to work the
layout largely as described above. This was knocked on the head probably because
of the image factor, we can't be seen to be installing mechanical frames in the
1990's. We did at Wallan though, perhaps Wallan is not in the limelight of
comuter land.
