About short distances, the line at the western end of the new Subiaco
station looks like it'd have to be pretty steep to get underground in such a
short distance. That was the situation when the Freo line was open, anyway.
It might be that quite a lot of the orginal track has ben moved, in which
case the new bit won't need to be very steep.

Some station approaches on the Joondalup line are quite steep where the line
follows the freeway level. I think Warwick is an example.
