More niggle:
It does not take 13 hours to get from Mel-Adl by train:

Or to the station.

Ditto although less of a problem as you can take more hand luggage on a
train.

Ditto train - they request you get there 30 minutes before train leaves,
with airline it is 15 minutes. Given the distance between the check counter
at your average airport and where the plane is vs. the same for a station, I
wonder why it takes 15 more minutes to load the train than it does the
plane.....

Ditto, how long have you waited on a train outside Sydney or Melbourne
awaiting a path?

Ditto train

Like THIS never happened with the railways....

Theoretically the same could be said for your 13 hour train trip taking
17-19 hours. Lets look at that from your perspective.
AIR
TRAIN
Boronia to Terminal - 55 mins train, 50 mins bus - 55 mins train
Waiting time at terminal - 15 mins - 30 mins
Travel time - 1
- 13 hr
Collect luggage,etc - 15 mins -
15mins
Reach destination - maybe 20 mins in favour of train, not having
ever gone to Adelaide, I am unsure of a fair comparison - perhaps someone
can add a fair guess.
Anyway TOTAL - 3hrs 35 inc. weighting in favour of rail at
destination - 14hr 40 by train. Thus air wins by 11 hrs. Even if you cut the
rail journey by 3 hours with track upgrading, etc - speed still makes little
difference.
