OK, now that the irrelevancies about speed proving in Victoria is
over..... again, does anyone know for certain what role these boxes
play? Since they do not line up exactly with the train stops, in some
instance being some distance beyond the previous train stop, the
relationship between train stops and the boxes is not immediately
obvious, except that it appears to be 1 to 1.

While they may well be induction sensing devices, which box relates to
which train stop, i.e. one ahead, two ahead or whatever?
