At first I thought this might have been the proposed inland steel highway
from Melbourne to Darwin powered by gas turbine locomotives, but this
appears to be a different proposal with local government behind it.

This plan uses mostly existing lines, with some new lines to be built.

Existing routes, upgrade where necessary:
Seymour - Albury - Cootamundra - Parkes - Dubbo - Gilgandra(?)
Horsham - Murray Bridge
Adelaide - Perth

Existing routes, upgrade as practicai:
Melbourne - Seymour
Melbourne - Horsham
Maroona - Portland
Cootamundra - Sydney (mentions using Speedrail VFT track if built)
Goulburn - Canberra
Sydney - Newcastle - Narrabri
Parkes - Broken Hill - Adelaide
Tarcoola - Alice Springs

New standard gauge lines:
Murray Bridge - Adelaide (bypass the hills)
Gilgandra(?) - Narrabri
Moree - Goondawindi - Toowoomba
Toowoomba - Gatton
Roma - Moura - Blackwater - Goonyalla - Torrens Creek
Mt Isa - Tennant Creek - Darwin

New standard gauge, with possible dual gauge:
Toowoomba - Roma
Gatton - Brisbane
Moura - Gladstone
Emerald - Townsville
Torrens Creek - Cloncurry - Mt Isa

Possible new standard gauge:
Alice Springs - Tennant Creek
Seymour - Bendigo - Horsham

Possible future lines:
Darwin - Kimberley - Pilbara - Perth

Previously proposed routes now abandoned:
Seymour - Shepparton - Griffith - Parkes
Roma - Mt Isa direct

Cheers
